Following on from my previous post bidding farewell to Dan’s iconic PS13, I headed over to his makeshift workshop (the driveway outside his house) to see how he was getting on with his new S15 build.
Having started life as a lowly Spec-S non-turbo model, this Silvia is now much more respectable thanks to a whole host of parts Dan has kitted it out with.
The lowly SR20DE has been replaced with the Red Top SR20DET out of his PS, along with the TD06-20G turbo setup and GReddy mid-mount manifold.
While this car is setup for competition use and will be campaigned in the DriftCup series this year, Dan is adamant that the full interior must remain (much to the dismay of Huxley of Huxley Motorsport fame who will soon be trying to fabricate a full roll cage around the fiddly Nissan plastics). It’s always good to see people actually taking the time to make their car somewhat bearable to drive on the road.
The hydraulic handbrake has also been disguised by the OEM handbrake trim, with the master cylinder being located within the armrest/cupholder area. It certainly makes a change to some of the extremely in-your-face and unnecessarily vulgar hydro setups you often see these days.
The bodywork is a somewhat mix & match affair at the moment but will soon be coated in Dan’s signature sparkly paintwork. The bumpers and skirts are Vertex items, the overfenders are Origin +30mm units (these will soon be replaced with new, undamaged panels) and the rear boot spoiler is from D-Max. Funnily enough, four other well-known S15s have contributed body panels to this build, as I’m sure you may have noticed (the overfenders were taken from Matt Kerr’s Downside Drifters car, the skirts from James Tooley’s Garage 21 steed, the rear bumper from Jacko Emery’s ex-D1SL S15 and the front wings from Rich Starkey’s/Driftworks’ Silvia).
The wheels are WORK Seeker EXs, measuring 17×9-3 up front and 17×9.5-1 at the rear.
Dan’s currently working overtime to get the car finished in time for Round 1 of DriftCup in March – hopefully he can get the bodywork tidied up and the roll cage fabricated in time.
