There are plenty of serious drift builds around these days, more so than ever in the world of competitive drifting. Some try to push the boundaries of what is previously thought to be possible with wilder and crazier engine swaps, tubular front and rear ends and one-off body panels. On the hand, others build upon tried and tested ideas in the aim of perfecting them, and Wesley Keating’s WKD Imports 180SX is definitely one of the latter.

Starting with the exterior and it’d be impossible not to notice the Rocket Bunny kit, with those huge bolt-on arches allowing a menacing wheel and tyre combination to be put to good use. The paint job is also very discreet compared to that of other competition cars and, despite the car now sporting its Nankang Tire livery (see here) it still remains well-thought and easy on the eye.

Wes’ 180 still rocks an SR20 as the Nissan gods intended, although this one is far from standard. Wes has experimented with a number of SR setups over time (including the highly regarded VVL head configuration) but at the Anglesey test day that these photos were taken at it was running a more basic setup.

While an SR20 powered S13 might not sound that exciting on paper it’s the details that make this car that extra bit special. Yes, you’d be right in thinking that that paddle is connected to the car’s sequential ‘box. How many drift cars have you seen running a similar setup?

If you’re at a BDC or IDC round this year be sure to check out the car in the pits and say hi to Wes – he’s one of the friendliest guys on the scene and almost always the first to get the beers in.
