I’m a huge fan of taking an otherwise plain and boring Japanese family saloon car, decking it on some coilovers and bolting on the widest and most aggressive fitting wheels you can find. It sounds like a simple recipe but the reality is that it takes a lot more work to make it function properly than what meets the eye of the casual observer.

Lots of hammering and bashing is almost always a requirement in order to prevent rubber and metal coming into contact, whether it be on the lesser seen inner arch area or the more visible outer arches. Loom tucks are often required to prevent tyre and wires meeting, while a hole host of adjustable arms are often required to dial in the alignment to make sure the car can actually function at the desired ride height.

I’m saying all this because, while it may look relatively simple from the outside, I’m fairly certain this awesome Nissan Y34 Gloria that I spotted while out in Osaka is boasting a whole host of modifications under the skin. Although, seeing as I didn’t get chance to talk to the owner, who knows – it could just be on chopped springs for all we know!
