If there’s anything I learnt during my time in Japan, it was that the VIP scene is seriously big business. Aside from the household names such as Junction Produce and DAD, there were a myriad of other brands churning out progressively more wild creations. Here a few pictures that I took of some examples on display at Osaka Auto Messe earlier this year, put together by 7Demand and Aspiration.

The barriers between more traditional VIP looks and “time attack” styling are consistently being broken down, with wild diffusers, spoilers and canards featuring heavily on plenty of the cars on show.

I really do enjoy my Y32 NIssan Cedric daily but I really want to get stuck into a Toyota UFC20/Lexus LS400 build. Big and relatively old VIP barges have plummeted in price in recent times and you can get so much car for your money – it’s a shame the scene hasn’t really kicked off in the UK just yet.
