Dan from Low Origin works fast. Adam from RETROshine also works fast, maybe even faster than Dan. Combined, the two can churn out work at an alarming rate, with the transformation performed on Dan’s own S15 this weekend just gone being a case in point.

LOW ORIGIN S15

Having been collected from the Midlands on Friday evening, the Low Origin S15 arrived at the RETROshine workshop in Stockport a few hours later, ready to receive its 2018 look. The key aspects were a change of bodykit to D-MAX Type 3, switching out the stock bonnet for a fibreglass D-MAX item and a completely new paint job.

With Dan having put in the prep work beforehand, it was up to Adam to set about laying down the colour we shall refer to as “Low Origin 2018 Yellow”, which is a lot deeper, darker and somewhat classier than “Low Origin 2016 Yellow”. In addition, the pink to purple fade (I guess we can call it the “Instagram Fade”) was laid down at the rear.

After working until gone 5am on Friday night and putting in another stint on Saturday, the S15 was ready to go home after some finishing touches and reassembly on Sunday afternoon. As always, the last minute nature of the situation left me without a tripod or any additional lighting, so we rushed around to get a few photos freehand using whatever sources of light that we could find.

Up next is a matching paint job for Low Origin team mate Alex and his S14, along with a full livery from Josh at Graphix-D for both cars. You can be certain that I’ll be photographing them once they’re completed, so stay tuned for some more photos on the blog.

Taking these petrol station shots made me realise that I do kind of miss driving a drift car on the road, although as soon as I heard the inevitable “where is the front number plate?” question from a passer-by it brought me crashing back down to reality. At least they didn’t say “nice Peugeot 406!”.
