After fitting some VIP-tastic curtains to the back of my new daily driver (more info in a future post) on Sunday morning I headed down the road to Birmingham Wheels to catch a few hours of the Skid Risk practice day that was taking place. Aside from the usual array of BMWs that made up the field, BDC driver Marc Huxley and Dan Joyce of Lambo-Door-PS13 fame had also showed up to get some practice in.
With both cars running healthy Red Top Straight Cam SR20 setups, the racket these two made on track together certainly broke up the otherwise endless sound of straight six BMW engines smashing the rev limiter.
It seems that summer weather has finally reached the UK so naturally, bonnets came off.
Cooling is often an issue at Birmingham Wheels due to it being a large oval surrounded by high-sided objects, so there’s very little wind. The rear mounted radiator setup in Hux’s RA28 Celica didn’t seem to have any issues dealing with it though.
Hux was determined to rub the wall, other cars and whatever else he could get close to, while Dan understandly took a more conservative approach, having driven the car to the track and subsequently back home again.
I threw together some phone footage of the guys on track which you can check out below:
