What do you do when you’ve got a naturally aspirated FC Rx-7, an urge for more power and an insatiable work ethic for doing things yourself on your driveway? Adam Maciejewski’s drift car is what, with its unusual new power plant.
Adam has only been drifting for about 18 months or so, but his dedication and seat time has led him to become extremely proficient in a relatively short space of time. Having driven his underpowered FC myself, I can completely understand his want for more power now that he’s got the skills to enjoy it properly.
A turbo’d 13B engine would be the obvious upgrade, but the costs involved were too much for Adam. Instead, he opted to drop in a 1.6 unit from a Mk1 Mx-5, which will be joined by a T28 turbo setup.
Having seen the success of Matt Pickering’s boosted Mx-5, Adam decided that a healthy and reliable 200bhp or so would be a fantastic upgrade over the stock N/A 13B’s meagre output while still allowing him to develop his skills.
With the sheer pace that Adam works at it’ll probably only be a matter of weeks rather than months until his FC is back on the road, complete with its unique engine conversion and V-mount intercooler and radiator setup.
