I headed to Three Sisters circuit near Manchester last weekend for their first official drift day. They’ve had drifters on track in the past (as you may remember from one of my videos from earlier this year) but never an official day dedicated to drifting. I didn’t want to miss out so got booked in early and had a manic two weeks after Drift Matsuri getting the Laurel ready for the drive up North.
The day was split into caged and non-caged classes so there was a cool array of cars hitting up the track. This S15 grabbed my attention with its Spec-S bodywork and WORK Rezax 1 wheels – I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t considered a set of these for my C33.
I posted a video of Mat tearing up Buxton in his Mx-5 a few months ago but since then the car has been fitted with a turbo setup. 270bhp at the flywheel on just 9psi of boost sounds like a whole load of fun in a car that was already a great laugh to drive – Three Sisters was Mat’s first time on track since getting everything finished. Considering how cheap and easily replaceable these engines are, I can’t believe these setups aren’t more popular.
Having had gearbox trouble at Drift Matsuri it was cool to see Alex’s S14a behaving and going an entire day without any transmission or driveline related issues.
Saule’s S14a made a reappearance have been laid up since Finalboss – the AVS Model 5s are a fresh addition and measure 18×10 all round.
The Laurel looking filthy after an awesome day of drifting. The weather may have been wet, grey and miserable but if anything this made the whole day so much more fun as I spent all afternoon practicing my proximity skills with Alex and Joe. I lost count of how many laps we squeezed in but with no tyre changes required and the bonnet only being lifted to show someone the SR20 setup, the seat time was fantastic.
I mounted my GoPro to my helmet to try and film from a new perspective for once but I got it a bit wrong and the view isn’t great. I’ll cobble a video together shortly but for now, here’s a few photos that some of the photographers captured on the day. Thanks for standing in the cold and rain for us guys.
