After seeing the renders for the Rocket Bunny Boss S14 bodykit, my original thoughts were along the lines of “what on earth have they done?” and “why would you do that?”. Even after seeing the photos of the company’s demo car on Speedhunters shortly afterwards, I still wasn’t sold. It was only when I got to see said demo car in the flesh while in Osaka that my opinion started to change.
On paper, this is a pretty dumb conversion: why would you want to swap out the front wings, bonnet, bumper and headlights on what is an already decent looking car, to make it look like an American muscle car?
However, seeing this car in person made it all become clearer. Combined with the Rocket Bunny spoiler, arches and diffuser, this car has an awful lot of presence.
To understand cars like this, you need to stand on a street corner in a city like Osaka and watch the endless stream of taxis, MPVs and Kei cars go by. Every once in a while something loud and wild like a brightly coloured JZX100 will roll by and you’ll be blown away by how incredibly out of place it looks. A Rocket Bunny Boss-kitted S14 will stand out like a sore thumb by way of comparison and, if you can imagine this car making its way down a busy Japanese high street amongst the bright lights and the hustle and bustle of taxis and pedestrians, you’ll start to realise how a bodykit like this came to fruition.
I’ll really beginning to like it.
